The Youth Orchestra Program offers a comprehensive sequence of developmental ensembles that prepare young musicians for membership in advanced high school orchestras. The goal of that program is to nurture musicianship and foster in orchestral playing. 

 

Junior String Orchestra (JSO)

Energetic rehearsals emphasize ensemble skills in a supportive, fun setting. The JSO aims to inspire with string literature that excites young students and develops a strong team spirit.

New Horizons Senior String Orchestra, Wednesday

Seniors, now is a wonderful time to take up music!
The New Horizons Senior String Orchestra is designed for mature learners who have never played violin, viola, cello, or bass as well as former players seeking to revive their skills. All seniors are welcome, even beginners. Senior players include those with little or no experience and those who have not played for many years due to family and jobs. Each player will find a group of music lovers and will enjoy playing together in a fun, collaborative, and encouraging atmosphere. New Horizons Director Gabriel Villasurda is a veteran teacher, and a clinician in demand around the country. With over 35 years of experience, he has taught in London, New York, Oberlin, Ann Arbor, and Hawaii.

Bring your instrument if you have one, or by special arrangement with Shar Music of Ann Arbor, players needing an instrument can be fitted and are eligible for special New Horizons rental or purchase packages

Sterling String Orchestra (SSO)

Supportive rehearsals challenge students to develop professionalism and lead to musically sensitive, mature performances of challenging student string literature. This orchestra facilitates the musical and technical transition to the full symphony.

Youth Symphony Orchestra (YSO)

This orchestra challenges musicians to a high performance level while experiencing a rich symphonic repertoire. Intensive rehearsals develop high listening, technical, and ensemble skills. This impressive orchestra has performed in Australia and Toronto and was one of the Middle level orchestra to perform at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago.
